We’re delighted with the finished result of our ’60 Hour Makeover’ for the 2011 Thomas May Executive Quest, where we completely transformed the interior of the childrens room in the LOROS bookshop on Queens Road in Leicester into a magical woodland room with toad stool seats and astro-turf flooring. Alongside carrying out the work within our target of 60 hours we also managed to raise almost £2000 for LOROS and Prostaid, so a huge thank you for everyone who kindly donated.

Special thanks must also go to the companies that kindly donated all of the building materials - EH Smith builders merchant, Johnstones Leyland paints, Next, Harrison Surfacing, PCF Displays, Paul Hunt Woodworking and Fullsquare for printing and graphics.

The room has been a complete hit with the bookshops younger clientele, creating a space that will hopefully drive more sales of childrens books and help to raise even more money for LOROS. We were only too happy make our contribution to these two worthy causes, even though the (very long) weekend we spent was quite a grueling undertaking!

We’re delighted with the recently completed private members lounge at the Regency Hotel in South Kensington. It’s been well received by the client, the hotels guests as well as getting some great coverage in the press. Providing an added value facility for the hotels premium clientele, it includes an ‘honesty bar’, discreet technology with concealed power and connectivity for laptops and AV equipment. This new private members lounge is helping the hotel in the ever increasing competitive landscape of London hotel and hospitality venues. The overall feel of the interior is a warm, intimate and contemporary space.

This weekend myself and the Heterarchy crew will be creating this fantastic children’s reading room for a Loros bookshop in Leicester. It’s part of a challenge I’m taking part in, the Thomas May Executive Quest, which gets CEO’s, MD’s and business leaders within the Leicester area to do something crazy to raise money for Prostaid and Loros.

We’re starting at 8pm on Friday night, to be completed by 8am on the Monday morning! Materials for the build have been kindly donated by EH Smith builders merchant, Johnstones Leyland paints, Next, Harrison Surfacing, PCF Displays, Paul Hunt Woodworking and Fullsquare for printing and graphics.

Work has recently completed on a contemporary apartment interior in Leicestershire. The apartment is within a converted 1970′s office building – an unusual building type to convert to residential, however the results are entirely successful. With bold use of colour, interesting wall-art and a beautiful cast resin floor, the apartment interior design is cool and contemporary, whilst also being comfortable and practical. The Heterarchy studio is currently looking for a graduate intern Creative Design Technician. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, be methodical, organised, a good communicator, with excellent skills on Autocad and Adobe software. You will need to have a BA in interiors, furniture or equivalent qualification.

The role will involve working as an integral part of the creative team. Your responsibilities will focus on taking initial interior design concepts and developing them into workable design solutions. This will include producing technical/CAD drawings, details for bespoke furniture, joinery items and construction. Training will be given to develop your knowledge of the technical aspects of design. You will also be required to work with the design team on other aspects of a project, such as producing final presentations.

The start date for the position is the 3rd October. Following the recent completion of the bar design for Nosh in Rugby, work is due to commence on site. With sculpted croc panels on the front of the bar, simple cubic shelving to the rear and LED lighting throughout, the end result will be as effective as it affordable. The bar is due for completion by the beginning of September. Keep an eye out for photographs to be added to our project gallery once it is completed.

We’re delighted to have been featured in a new book, Container Architecture, published by the NRW Forum in Dusseldorf. Our inclusion is based upon the Contain Yourself project, a competition entry that took a standard shipping container and turned it into a compact, innovative contemporary home.

Special commendation must go to Liliya Kovachka, who was the lead designer on the project. As this years intern from Nottingham Trent University, following some initial creative discussions with the design team Liliya went on to develop a great piece of work.

As well as featuring our project, the book is packed full of amazing examples of container architecture from around the world, both realised and as concepts. The book can be purchased (German text only) from the NRW Forum for 33,oo EUR.

Commissioned by a photographer friend, who was struggling to operate out of a cramped studio in her house. The brief was to create a garden studio building, that would be large enough to undertake a variety of studio set-ups, as well as being able to be used for recreational uses such as a cinema room.

The building is simple in form and construction, although the ‘diagonally double pitched’ roof form posed some interesting angular junctions. Constructed using SIPS panels, the beauty of this system is that all of the geometric junctions can be pre-manufactured, allowing on-site assembly to be relatively straight forward.

The end result is a functional and beautiful space, and a contemporary take on the typical garden studio. Best of all, during the worst of our winter weather, the building hardly needed any heating.

We’ve just completed the design stage for a new private members lounge for the Regency Hotel in South Kensington, which is the largest independently owned hotel in London. This is part of a larger programme of redevelopment, which will also include the reception, main stairwell, corridors and communal areas.

The private members lounge is for the use of premium clients, to be used throughout the day, from breakfast through to simply relaxing in the evening. It follows hot on the heels of the completion of the new ‘Club’ bedrooms.

The interior design is contemporary, luxurious and intimate, the sole aim being to create a sense of privilege for those clients that will have access to the space. Low level lighting, a combination of fixed and free-standing seating, and smaller ‘snug’ areas to one side combine with a warm palette of velvety greys and solid Walnut to create a cosseting experience.

The project is currently on site, due to be completed in June 2011. Keep an eye out as it will be added to our project gallery in due course.
